This next cover is
actually two versions of the same song, "The Whole of the Moon"
by the Waterboys. This song I used to hear on a local easy listening station
on my ride home from work. They played it at the same time every day,
Monday through Friday. Every time I hear it, it reminds me of a lot of
the great people I worked with at that time. There's the original version
on YouTube, plus a version the band made many years later. Both are really
good, but these covers add a little bit of uniqueness to the tune. It's
hard to say which is the better of the two, so I play both of them.
Frightened Rabbit - The Whole Of The Moon (BBC Scotland Hogmanay Show)
This next tune is a cover of Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive"—and yes, it did! This band took this song and turned it upside down. Great lead guitar, except I would have worn at least sergeant stripes, and the lead singer kind of looks like the golfer Scottie Scheffler. It also has some excellent surprise trumpet in it.
CAKE - I Will Survive (Live)
The next cover is
another one-hit wonder—or maybe two-hit wonder—of the 1980s.
It's "Breakout" by Swing Out Sister. This cover is really
good, and the video is excellent!
